I've been seated on a jury. The judge has admonished the jurors not to talk about the case while it's going on, but I'll keep notes which I might publish after the trial is over.

Today I got a letter with an unusual closing. The writer signed off "Sinisterly".

I recently saw a bunch of pleadings that were filed in a single case in the California Court of Appeal by various parties. Remarkably, most of the parties could not agree on what the name of the court is. The caption pages submitted by various parties referred to things like "The Court of Appeal", "Court of Appeal of California", "California Court of Appeals", "Court of Appeal of the State of California", "Court of Appeals of the State of California", "Court of Appeal for the State of California", etc. I think I've found seven different variations of the court's name.

Apparently the court doesn't take its branding seriously enough to impose sanctions on attorneys who refer to it in a nonstandard way in their pleadings. In fact, the court's own web site seems to use at least two different forms.

Hee! Me too, me too!

"Sorrow is everywhere, in man is no abiding entity, in things no abiding reality."

The ocean of our birth and death
Has borne away the final breath
Of Junger; once he sued Daley.
Timor mortis conturbat me.
